Hospitality for Hope

COVID-19 has devastated the hotel industry from an economic standpoint, but it has not extinguished the hospitality that is shining brightly within hotels across the country. Quiet rays of hope and healing can be found inside the Courtyard by Marriott Wilkes-Barre Arena. In partnership with American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), the Hotel has joined the fight, providing accommodations to those most in need. Through AHLA’s new initiative – Hospitality for Hope,” the hotel has registered within the system to provide temporary housing for emergency and healthcare workers as the COVID-19 public health crisis grows.

Hospitality for Hope Initiative

Stephen Field, President of Synergy Hospitality Management, the management company for the hotel states “this has hit us all so deeply and so close to home.” “Our Hotels are demonstrating the best of us all, providing a helping hand to our communities in this time of need. As we continue to face this unprecedented public health emergency, we are doing what we can to give back to frontline healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers who continue to work around the clock to protect our community” continues Field. “Keeping our doors open is what we do best, our guests can rest easy knowing they have an alternative place to stay.”

“Our brand support team through Marriott has provided us with a comprehensive list of cleaning and sanitizing protocols to ensure we are providing the safest environment for our guests and our team members,” states April Hargraves, General Manager for the Hotel. “Our full team has been trained on all protocols, including new disinfecting procedures, and keeping detailed logs to ensure that all high guest touchpoint areas are sanitized on a 2-hour cycle.”  Additionally, the Hotel has implemented a decontamination procedure for all guestrooms upon a guest’s checkout, which also mandates that the guestroom will then sit vacant for 48 hours before a new guest can occupy that specific room.

The demands on healthcare facilities, medical staff, first responders and community workers continue to be overwhelming. In addition to the participation in the Hospitality for Hope initiative, we are also focused on local market outreach. We are here to offer additional beds for patients to recover or to self-quarantine in a safe environment. Within our walls, we offer quiet and peaceful spaces for those on the front lines that need to protect their family from undue stress, or to simply find a few hours of respite amidst the fight against the virus.
